TankAssessor™- Assessment of Storage Tanks

ASSESSMENT OF STORAGE TANKS TO EEMUA 159

Oil and petrochemical industry feedstock and products have been stored in above-ground, vertical cylindrical tanks for many years. At first sight these tanks appear of simple design and construction with innocuous working environments. However, this is not the case in practice as the numerous accidents associated with such tanks testify.

Based on EEMUA 159 users’ guide (which may also be purchased separately in the EEMUA Online Shop) and API Std 653, two courses are offered which cover the need for inspection, the interpretation of the results, and the determination of safe courses of action.

The Level One course describes many of the key features of design and the common problems that arise in service, and identifies many of the actions that may be taken to avoid their recurrence or remedy the effects.

The Level One Refresher course is designed for people who already hold a Level One Certificate obtained within the last five years and wish to extend their Certificate for a further period of time. For those who obtained a Certificate more than 5 but less than 10 years ago and have evidence of working with tanks over this period, it is also possible to be recertified by successfully completing the Refresher course and examination alone, otherwise the Level One course has to be re-taken.

The Level Two course details the theory behind the "Probabilistic Preventive Maintenance (PPM)" methodology, which is based upon two underlying methodologies: "Risk-Based Inspection (RBI)" and "Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM)", and guides the participant through implementation of the methodology.

The full courses include an optional examination and successful candidates will be awarded a Part One or Part Two Certificate of Competence. Those opting not to take the examination will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
